There's been a curious little rumor going around pertaining to Oren Peli's next movie, Area 51. Some sites have been reporting that writer Stephen Susco has been brought in late in the game for rewrites and even possible reshoots on the cinéma-vérité style film in which the dialog is largely improvised. Yeah, that didn't sound right to us so we did a bit of digging to get to the bottom of things.
We contacted a direct source close to the production and as expected there's not even a smidgen of truth to the rumor. Susco was was possibly going to be involved two years ago, but that never happened, and he's not involved now at all.
Area 51 employs the "found footage" narrative structure that Peli used in Paranormal Activity to tell the story of three teens whose curiosity leads them to the notorious Area 51 portion of Nellis Air Force Base in the Nevada desert. Of course all manner of shit-your-pants type spookiness ensues.
Keep your eyes peeled and your butt cheeks tightly clenched. You know how probe happy those pesky aliens can be! Area 51 will find its way into theaters sometime soon.
