As I am writing this midnight movie screenings of the latest Twilight flick are selling out everywhere. No surprise to know that many movie production companies would like to suck up some of that tweener paranormal romance money. This is good news for authors like Richelle Mead and her New York Times best selling Vampire Academy book series. She'll reap the rewards and horror fans will continue to weep for the genre.
Coming Soon brings us news that Preger Entertainment has staked their claim to the film rights for the Vampire Academy book series, the sixth installment will be released by Penguin Books this December. Since I'm not 14 nor do I have a vagina and I'm not emo I'll just let Wikipedia explain the Vampire Academy storyline.
It tells the story of Rosemarie (Rose) Hathaway, a seventeen year old Dhampir girl, who is training to be a body guard for her Moroi best friend, Vasilisa (Lissa) Dragomir. In the process of learning how to defeat Strigoi (the undead and evil vampires) in St. Vladimir's Academy, Rose finds herself caught in a forbidden romance with her handsome instructor, Dimitri Belikov, while having an unbreakable bond with Lissa.
So we have a little Twilight, a little Harry Potter, and some hot teacher-on-student forbidden fruit action going on to boot? I'm down with that. Get Larry Clark to direct and I'm really down with that.
