One of the great things about working for Dread Central is that it forces me to be up to speed on everything happening within our beloved genre. With that said, however, some things have a way of catching me off guard. Like that the 1973 classic, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark has been remade and that none other than Guillermo del Toro is producing it. Read on to know when you can expect it to hit a theater near you!
According to Variety, Disney will release the film domestically on January 21, 2011 through its Miramax arm.
Story centers on a young girl, portrayed by Madison, who's sent to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the old mansion they are renovating, where she unwittingly unleashes malevolent creatures bent on destroying all of them.
We're still quite a way away from this one, which means that you've got plenty of time to seek out the original before the remake breaks, right? If you haven't seen it, dig the trailer below before giving it a whirl. You don't be disappointed.
