Blu-ray Review: The 1977 Classic 'Hausu'! Posted: 15 Oct 2010 09:17 AM PDT When I saw Janus Films theatrical release of Hausu back in January (review), I was absolutely floored by the macabre beauty that director Nobuhiko Obayashi put on display in his horror tale. The story of the seven girl posse who are basically eaten alive by a haunted house is one of the most surreal films Ive ever seen, cramming in every single in-camera special effect conceivable in 1977, and relishing in its childlike approach to storytelling. Little did I know, at the time, that Obayashi consulted his then 10-year-old daughter, Chigumi, for many of the films scenarios! |
Blu-ray Review: Best Worst Movie Ever -- 'Troll 2'! Posted: 15 Oct 2010 09:16 AM PDT "Nilbog! It's goblin spelled backwards! This is their kingdom!" Thanks to MGM Troll 2, which is widely considering the most entertaining "bad" horror movie ever made, is now available on Blu-ray. David Harley chimes in with his thoughts on the HD release: "Just as the title of its retrospective documentary suggests, Troll 2 is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best worst movie ever made." Click the title for the review. "Do you see this writing...? Do you know what it means...? Hospitality. And you can't piss on hospitality! I WON'T ALLOW IT!" No extra features have been revealed, but I don't expect any. The plot concerns an American family, the Waits family, who are taking a trip to the country to visit a small town called "Nilbog" (goblin spelled backwards), but are plunged into a nightmare as they are relentlessly pursued by vegetarian goblins, who turn people into plants before they eat them. |
