Preview: Dread Central Rides: King Kong 360 3D!

I'll never forget that fateful morning driving westbound on the I-134 and rounding the bend to see Universal Studios in flames. The pillars of smoke rose high enough to blot out the sun and all of us were left with an unbearable sadness as miles of backlot - including Hill Valley, the King Kong exhibit, and vaults of archival material - perished in that godawful fire. Thankfully, Universal and Peter Jackson have made the best of a bad situation and we now have a brand-new Kong attraction.

Two years to the day of the tragic fire, Jackson and Universal launched the grand opening of King Kong 360 3D in Hollywood and we were one of the first to experience it. And as much as that old robot Kong had a classic nostalgic charm about it, sometimes it's good to kick out the old and bring in the new.

Boarding the backlot trams, we were whisked into Skull Island and quickly found ourselves in the middle of a heated battle between Kong and a posse of tourist-chomping dinos. Gone is the static feeling of a large animatronic head roaring at you, replaced with an all-out sensory overload as the tram was knocked around through all out war in a fully immersive 3D environment. Even the most hardened purist who stepped off the tram had the same reaction: King Kong 360 3Dkicks MAJOR ass!

Click below to see footage from the ride and opening ceremonies, complete with a brand new Peter Jackson introduction! Be advised, the shaky 2D footage you are about to see isn't 1/50th as cool as experiencing the ride first hand.

Also check out Universal's new "making-of" featurette and a few images that are nearly guaranteed to get you crazy.

King Kong 360 3D opens to the general public this weekend at Universal Studios, Hollywood.

Last year audiences were thrilled by what some refer to as one of the scariest films they've ever seen. Like it or not, Oren Peli's little movie that could changed ALL of the rules in Hollywood, and the genre has been better for it.

Upon its release the flick even did the unthinkable by ousting the latest entry in the Saw franchise as the go-to Halloween movie event of the year. Critics and fans alike were stunned. For some the hype ruined the experience, for others it helped sell it. No matter which camp you fell into, you have to admit it was one hell of a ride.

Now Paramount gives us the first official teaser trailer for the sequel, which is being directed by Kip Williams. Check it out below, and to stay tuned to all things Paranormal Activity related, keep your eye on the official Paranormal Activity website and follow the film on Twitter (@TweetYourScream)!

Look for the film in theatres October 22nd of this year.

Horror In Your House Goes Blu-ray 'Crazies'

Posted: 29 Jun 2010 03:00 PM PDT

There's only one reason to hit up your local video retailer: to score Fox Home Entertainment's new hi-def transfer of the original Predator on Blu-ray. While it may be a double-dip, it's straight up worth the price of re-buying -- although Fox should offer a refund to anyone ripped off with the original $35 piece of sh*t up-convert release. Anyways, it's awesome, go buy it. See what else hit stores this morning by reading below.

Famous Chef Mario Batali plays the owner of the restaurant in a cameo.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Posted:

"Where New Moon was a clumsily paced, brutally long-winded exercise that peddled in second-rate CW theatrics, Eclipse - while still at least twenty minutes too long and not without its flaws is lighter on its feet and infinitely more bearable." Score: 5 / 10

Final Destination 5 Gets an Official Title, Plus a Little on the Opening Disaster

Boy, it really seemed like there was no life left in the Final Destination franchise after that last movie, but a worldwide gross of $185 million has put Warner Bros. on the proverbial fast track. What have they come up with so far? How about an awful title and a potentially awesome opening disaster.

According to the great folks over at Bloody Disgusting, the fifth entry in the long-running franchise has been slapped with the hopelessly stupid title 5nal Destination. What's more is that writer Eric Heisserer (A Nightmare on Elm Street refake) and director Steven Quale have already got their sights set on a calamity to kick off the body count:

Suspension bridge carnage? What's better than exploiting something we all fear when crossing a bridge? It's certainly a hell of a lot better than a racetrack. So while I'm not sure I'm really all that enthused by the prospect of another one of these movies, I'll be hauling my tired ass to theaters in the hopes that these filmmakers have whipped up an interesting take on the formula.
